Or maybe the Roborock Saros Z70 isn’t so much hype as it may seem, but that doesn’t take away the fact that it does have a cool robotic arm. The robotic arm is capable of picking up tiny objects in its path, moving those to a new location, then continuing its cleaning process. This robotic arm of the Saros Z70 perhaps is the most impressive feature we’ve ever encountered in a Robot Vacuum. But how does it work, and what are the limitations of this robotic arm?

A careful look is how to make use of the Roborock Saros Z70 robotic arm and other improvements that one can give.

Limitations of the Roborock Saros Z70’s Robotic Arm

Now, before you put this robot vacuum to work for you and have it pick up all the things strewn around your floor, you should find out what its disadvantages are. It is worth mentioning that Saros Z70 is receiving constant software updates from Roborock; hence that means new features would always be round the corner. These are the current limitations that will govern how well your robotic arm will perform.

  • Object Recognition Difficulty on Carpet
  • Threshold Hurdles Prevent Robot Arm from Moving
  • The Robot Arm is really slow on the working activity.
  • Arm weights not more than 300 grams.
  • Low-lying objects are less likely to be detected.
  • Reflective objects are less likely to be detected by the robot.

Some of these limitations are hardware dependent and cannot be kept improving. Others are likely to be available to keep on improving in the coming months via software updates.

Tips and tricks for using the robotic arm of the Saros Z70

The robot is going to disable the Saros Z70’s arm initially. You can enable it from that menu by being close to the robot and manually activating a couple of settings from the Robotic Arm Settings area. After that, you should check other options from Robotic Arm Settings, including:

  • Follow-Up Cleaning
  • Auto-Sorting
  • Manual Sorting

Remote Control to Pick Up.  It would be better if you switched on automatic sorting after following cleaning, then played with the other options. Another thing you can do is use the Remote Control to Pick up functionality, which enables you to navigate the robot toward an item and then start the “pick up” process.

Otherwise, most of the features of the robotic arm are automated. When it encounters something it can pick up, it will do so by itself and return it to a specific location in your home. But there are ways to maximize its potential.

Never leave items on carpets. The Saros Z70 doesn’t recognize objects carpeted, leaving it to only pick things off the naked floor. This was evident in my tests, so I didn’t get it picking anything up off carpet.

Be patient. It’s pretty normal for the robotic arm to grab an object and then drop it again, so there’s nothing surprising about that. In fact, I realize I may need to try the correct way a couple of times (and even take a few minutes) for its sensors to accurately pick different things up.

Make it easy for the storing box to be located.

Three sides open to the robot. That is, avoid putting it in a corner, and if you do put it close to a wall, make sure the robot can reach all the other edges. For the best results, use socks, small towels, papers, and slippers; anything heavier than these may or may not be recognized by the robot; additionally, objects weighing more than 300 grams exceed the arm’s weight limit, so you should clean up heavy obstacles and items larger than the few mentioned above.

You can also try manual operation by using the Remote Control to Pick Up option, which allows you to manually control the arm. This is a fun way to show off the robot to guests and can be used to pick up challenging objects.
