To hate a film villain is to enjoy the story: villains are a great way to spice up the action. The heroes would not shine if these villains did not exist because the shadow always accompanies light. When the villains appear on screen, they compel us to cheer and fear for our characters’ safety. The villains in some movies are so skilled at being vicious that they end up taking the spotlight away from the heroes.

Darth Vader (“Star Wars” films)

The words “I am your father” aren’t something anyone wants to hear, especially from an evil villain on a death star. One of the most well-known villains in “Star Wars” history, Darth Vader, is Luke Skywalker’s father. Those same Darth Vader characters fight for an evil empire in the “Star Wars” movies.

Darth Vader is a compelling character because he is both eerie and tragic, his last traces of humanity buried beneath a machine. A film villain’s biggest (death) star more than three decades after his first appearance in the cinema.

Thanos (“Avengers” films)

Anyone who can wipe out half of all life on the planet with a simple flick of their fingers is a worthy addition to this list. Known as the Avengers, Thanos is their final boss and brings them to the brink of a disastrous defeat. Read Also: Shaun King Net Worth

This alien warlord will stop at nothing to protect his right to prevent overpopulation through the use of powerful artifacts. Superheroes aren’t the only ones who are offended by his arrogance and cruelty.

Commodus (“Gladiator”)

The emperors of ancient Rome are legendary today as they were then for their excesses and vices and their lack of maturity and ability to lead. Commodus, played by Joaquin Phoenix in the 2000 film “Gladiator,” is the face of the dangerously incompetent emperors. When a deep-seated sense of inadequacy consumes Commodus, he is nothing but a coward.

General Maximus Meridius, the son of Commodus’ father Marcus Aurelius, was his target of wrath because he was supposed to succeed Commodus as emperor. A defiant child’s emotional world resides in Commodus, the ruler of an empire.

Joker (“Batman” films)

They get stuck in their throats whenever the joker shows up. Despite the fact that he is a fictional character who has been portrayed in numerous film adaptations, television shows, comic books, and video games over the years, this villain has never lost any of his grotesque appeal. The Joker’s homicidal madness and inventiveness make for memorable appearances.

Weird things happen when you’re in his presence. He’s the perfect counterpoint to Batman’s stoic demeanor as a ferocious pain in the ass. It is the Joker’s desire to see the world engulfed in fire.

Lord Voldemort (“Harry Potter” films)

Lord Voldemort is a name that even seasoned wizards are unable to pronounce. “The one whose name must not be mentioned” is a bit impractical, but it leaves no doubt that this villain spreads fear and terror in the magical world. With JK Rowling’s creation and Ralph Fiennes’s portrayal, Voldemort has been immortalized in the minds of many moviegoers as Harry Potter’s archenemy.

Unstoppable, hate-filled, and greedy for more and more power are just some of the adjectives that describe him. Even its snake-like appearance elicits deep-seated apprehensions in those who encounter it.

Head Nurse Ratched (“One flew over the cuckoo’s nest”)

Since Mildred Rached appeared on the big screen and froze the blood in the audience’s veins, nurses have been considered legitimate villains. To play Randle McMurphy role in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” Jack Nicholson was cast as head nurse Ratched’s ruthless regiment at Salem State Hospital.

She bullies and intimidates the patients coldly, smothering any glimmer of hope in their hearts. When Randie challenges her authority, there is a sense of dread. It was in 1975 that Louise Fletcher was awarded an Oscar for her performance as Mildred Rached. This award was given to her because the film academy’s members were afraid of her.

Hannibal Lecter (“The Silence of the Lambs”)

He’s the serial killer’s version of a celebrity chef. Anthony Hopkins’ portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in the film “The Silence of the Lambs” made the villain a cult classic. Hannibal Lecter aids FBI student Clarice Starling in her investigation in the 1991 psychological thriller.

So much of cold-blooded madness can be found in the calm, polite manner of the imprisoned serial killer and his razor-sharp mind. Hannibal Lecter has a way of getting to you.

The Alien (“Alien” films)

It wasn’t until 1979 that people began to fear extraterrestrial life. Because there were few convincing images of the aliens, this should change when “Alien – The Uncanny Creature from a Strange World” is released.

We now know what to fear of aliens with ferocious hunting instincts that humans use as living incubators for their offspring. Since its debut in 1979, the alien has become the unrivaled prototype of the terrifying alien, often copied but never equaled.

Terminator (“The Terminator”)

The Terminator, the only bad guy on this list, is also a contender for the top 20 greatest film heroes. John Connor’s younger brother is protected by Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator-like robot, which had been designed to be a killing machine when it first appeared in 1984’s Terminator. Remarkably, his reputation as an indestructible man-killer lives on.

There were many other Terminator models to follow him as villains in the later films. The Terminator inspired a new generation of uncompromising super-soldiers who make us a little apprehensive about what lies ahead.

Agent Smith (“Matrix” films)

His view of people is that we are nothing more than a bothersome virus. When it comes to the Matrix, an artificial intelligence named Agent Smith never hides his disdain for human beings. If you don’t know what freedom, peace, or justice are and you’re strong and intelligent, Agent Smith is a very dangerous and compelling villain.

Because he is as cold and consistent as a professional can be, he appears unbeatable. As Agent Smith, Hugo Weaving has established himself as a sought-after actor in the villain genre.
