Twitter Launches Spark Program to Popularize Audio Spaces

    Twitter Launches Spark Program

Twitter looks like it will make a new push for its live audio product, Spaces, by expanding the Spaces tab, making it easier to find broadcasts in the app, and launching a new program called “Spark” to help creative audio talent.

    As explained by Twitter

    Twitter Launches Spark Program

“The Twitter Spaces Spark Program is a three-month accelerator initiative designed to discover and reward great Spaces on Twitter with financial, technical, and marketing support. Twitter created the program to discover and reward these Spaces. We are looking for up-and-coming Creators who are enthusiastic about the live social audio format and interested in developing recurring content for Spaces.

This is very similar to the Creator Accelerator program that Clubhouse offers. At the same time, TikTok has also implemented its Creator Fund, as has Pinterest, Snapchat, and so on.

In other words, all major platforms are now looking to provide more support and assistance for creators to build their content ecosystems and maintain their best talent aligned with their apps. This is being done to keep their best talent aligned with their apps. Twitter has also launched various creator monetization initiatives for the same purpose. This new program focuses specifically on audio creators, as Twitter looks to get as much use out of Spaces and audio broadcasts as possible.

Despite this, Twitter appears to have forgotten that Facebook’s augmented reality (AR) development platform is also known as “Spark” and has its funding initiative. Or it didn’t care. Most likely the second option.

There will also be opportunities for ‘prioritized in-app discoverability for well-performing Spaces.’ Because of this, Twitter will likely try to highlight these broadcasts at the very top of the Spaces tab. This could assist content creators in growing their audience and gaining more value from their efforts.

It is interesting to note that Twitter also mentions, within the overview of the program, that it is particularly interested in applicants who “have an established show in social audio on other platforms.”

That makes sense, but it’s interesting to see Twitter looking to poach top talent from other platforms (cough* Clubhouse) as part of its expansion plan. I say this because it’s interesting to see Twitter looking to expand its presence.

    What’s in it for you?

    Exclusive rewards

    • Cha-ching! $2500 per month, to be exact
    • Monthly ad credits to promote your Spaces (you’ll need to set up a business account, and terms & conditions apply)
    • Custom Spaces swag

    Access and community

    • Virtual kick-off with Twitter product leadership
    • Early access to new Twitter products and features
    • Connection to other Creators in the Twitter Spaces Spark Program Community

Visibility — see your name in lights!

    • Support from Twitter’s owned and operated social handles
    • Promotional spotlights in Twitter content series
    • Opportunities for prioritized in-app discoverability for well-performing Spaces

People on Twitter have been embracing Spaces as a new canvas for conversation and finding creative ways to lean in. We recognize the hard work it takes to create audio content that’s compelling, engaging, and keeps people coming back. And above all else, we believe in the potential of people’s ideas and the potential of live social audio, and we see an opportunity to help audio content Creators — like you — take off.

    How to apply

Applications are now closed. Follow @TwitterSpaces to stay in the loop with potential future waves of the program.
