To hate a film villain is to enjoy the story: villains are a great way to spice up the action. The heroes would not shine if these villains did not exist because the shadow always accompanies light. When the villains appear on screen, they compel us to cheer and fear for our characters’ safety. The villains in some movies are so skilled at being vicious that they end up taking the spotlight away from the heroes.

Darth Vader (“Star Wars” films)
